This week! To not miss…DuChamp, Biblo, Nika Son, a noise parade, Mushy… by DuChamp

Wed Jan 9th @ Loophole, Boddinstrasse 60 NK

NIKA SON + BIBLO + DUCHAMP w/FILIPE DIAS DE

NIKA SON makes music with fieldrecordings, voice, analog and electronic instruments. Her music is composed of manipulated field-recordings, combined with instrumental fragments and sparse vocals. Playing live, her tracks are stretched and extended, using a groove box, varying instruments and contact-microphones. Sounds coming from somewhere deep down, circling, spinning and hovering between dark blue, red and grey. Some of her tracks have been released on compilations on m.mlabel, Alrealon Music and Wir rufen zurück (Demo-Dandies). As a DJ (Nikae) she plays records on a regular basis, mainly at the Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg, where she hosts, together with Ratkat, a monthly music and exhibition night.

BIBLO Istanbul based artist Biblo, has been creating music out of everyday noises, field recordings and lazy, confused pieces of beats for a while now. Her record “On Ugliness” was released in a limited edition of 200 pieces as the first ever record on Quetzi Records (a-musik/Cologne) in May 2010 and her latest album ’Projection’ isreleased in April 2012 through her bandcamp.

DUCHAMP  is an Italian scientist, musician and curator based in Berlin, religiously devoted to drone. She’s mainly inspired by the sound of the hairdryer, drone superheroines such as CC Hennix, Eliane Radigue, Pauline Oliveros, a long series of dronester lovers and by the lack of God. Her debut album will be release on vynil in January for Boring Machines (IT).

FILIPE DIAS DE  is a founding-member of Altes Finanzamt, musician and writer. After graduating in economics in Lisbon, moved to Asia (i.e. India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia) where he lived from 2006 till 2008. There he learnt sitar (Indian classical music), various Gamelan instruments (Balinese music) and Gender Wayang (Balinese xylophone used for shadow puppetry). After moving to Berlin (mid 2008), Filipe started exploring sitar in the context of experimental improvised music, developing new melodic constructions and also using objects.

Mario de Vega – born in Mexico City, 1979 his work overlaps relations between stability, failure, simulation and ambiguity with site-specific interventions, sound events, process-oriented projects, sculpture, modified electronics and sound improvisation. As an improviser, his practice explores the value of fragility & in-determination involving a wide range of customized objects, analog and modified electronics, turntables and computer based interfaces in different combinations.

Jeff Surak – operates in the netherworld between composed and improvised music, moving between musique concrete, drone, noise, & free improvisation using whatever sound implements at hand. He has collaborated with such artists as Alexei Borisov, Zan Hoffman, Rinus Van Alebeek, Frans De Waard, and Michael Gendreau.

In 2006, Programmer, writer, performer and explorer Martin Howse co-founded xxxxx, organising one large-scale conference and concert series in London (xxxxx) and publishing the acclaimed xxxxx [reader].
Heavily improvised, playing with the collapse of massed, barely functional salvaged equipment and software systems made manifest in sound/noise and image, Howse presents a complex, process-driven constructivist performance; the symphonic rise of the attempt to piece together fugal systematics is played out against the noise of collapse and machine crash at the deserted border of control.

Scott Sinclair
 – is an audiovisual artist, performer, and programmer. Largely self-taught, and with no allegiance to any single scene, he usually creates work that involves harsh and humorous collages of different media, from computer music and video art to vocal improvisation and custom-made costumes. Sinclair has a long history in improvised music, and is known for his brutal and unpredictable performances mixing more ‘serious’ and ‘difficult’ elements with ‘low brow’ trash, which has found audiences strangely entertained on many tours in Europe, Australia, Japan, Russia, and North America.

Marta Zapparoli – Sound artist, performer, musician, studied fine arts and the soproano saxophone. In Bologna/Italy being involved in a series of experimental radio shows, multmedia performances, sound installations and various dance companies and aswell experimental multimedia theater events. The last decade she creates sound art using field recordings digital and custom analog tools as well as found instruments and objects. Her sonic work investigates environmental phenomena, acoustic ecology, noise pollution, focusing on sonic narratives & human emotions through decomposition and real-time manipulation, sounds that are considered non-musical or overheard.

Musician, performer and founder of Idiosyncratics Records, Yannick Franck has developed an increasingly personal style that combines sharp acoustic research and abrasive walls of sound. Often described as trance-inducing, his music is based on the treatment of sources such as instruments and non-musical objects, voice, radio signals and field recordings. It ranges from fundamental acoustic explorations (The Staircase Continuum) to more stylistic-expressionistic searches (Memorabilia); two fields of investigation that tend to collide in his latest works. In the past, Yannick Franck has collaborated with Pietro Riparbelli / K11, Craig Hilton (Gauchiste, Loincloth), Phil Maggi, Alan Trench (World Serpent, Temple Music, Orchis) and Esther Venrooy among others and his music has been released on several labels including Silken Tofu, Young Girls Records, Sylvain Chauveau’s concept record house Onement and Italian label Silentes.

Topmodel  was Magnus Schaefer and Rinus van Alebeek on various keyboards and Mireia Guzman who made up spontaneous songs in spanish, german, english and gibberish. To some blind listeners their music reminded them of Malaria or the early Tödliche Doris. In the last years of the first decade of the new century, they were Momus’ preferred supporting act. After Magnus Schaefer`s decision to leave the group, topmodel continued, but mainly spend their time looking at a glass of milk. Now they are back. With a brand new idea. Tarot – Singing!

Mushy + Black Tar Jesus

MUSHY Italian artist directly from the underground experimental scene. Started in 2003. She’s got a double sided synth-wave slash kraut-psychedelic soul. Her sound reveals a charming world, made by the mixture of analog drum-machine loops, burgeoning cold drones, tempestuous noises and spectral chants which rise at the surface.

Noisekölln presents: Aidan Baker + Noveller + Sferics live in Loophole! 15-10-12 by DuChamp

beloved Noisekölln + julie tippex presents:

Noveller + Aidan Baker + Sferics

Mon 15 Oct in Loophole (Boddinstrasse 60 NK) at 21

Noveller is the solo project of Brooklyn-based guitarist and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate. Handling the electric guitar as her muse, Lipstate summons a sonic palette so rich as to challenge the listener to conceive of how it’s housed in a single instrument manipulated by a solitary performer. Lipstate has collaborated with several renowned musicians, including live improvised duo performances with Carla Bozulich (Evangelista, The Geraldine Fibbers), David Wm. Sims (the Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid), and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth).

Aidan Bakeris a Canadian musician & writer alternately based in Toronto & Berlin. A classically trained multi-instrumentalist, his primary instrument is the electric guitar with which he creates music ranging from experimental/drone to ambient post-rock to contemporary classical. In addition to his solo work, he performs with the groups Nadja, Whisper Room, and B/B/S/. Baker has released numerous albums on such labels as Alien8 Recordings, Beta-lactam Ring Records, Important Records, and Drone Records.

Sferics is Felix-Florian Tödtloff (of Petethepiratesquid, Sun Worship, etc.) on solo electric guitar. Eccentric shredding to a stereo delay, Kraut-influenced improvisation, if you know what you’re doing it’s not experimental!

Tonight: Jacob Kirkegaard at LEAP Berlin +Lafidki and Alpha Couple live+opening of a pleasure “radio” dome by DuChamp

Upcoming events in the land of milk and honey…(you were missing it, isn’t?)

[#] Danish sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard presents in LEAP Berlin his new sound installation called “Pivot”, created from video and sound recordings from Alexanderplatz’s tv tower (Fernsehturm). Jacob Kirkegaard was granted a special permit to access the machinery that keeps the globe in its constant pivoting motion. Using vibration sensors, he recorded the sounds emerging from the heavy mechanical engineering – a striking contrast to the slowly and silently revolving look-out above. For the installation at LEAP video is projected onto a curved white canvas that stretches from floor to ceiling. The curved canvas reflects the shape of the Fernsehturm’s dome and panoramic view of Berlin revealing a view of the city as seen from within the dome. Simultaneously the view from Leap’s windows reveals an up close sight of the colossal landmark, allowing for a double perspective of the city to take place.

Jacob Kirkegaard is a Danish artist who focuses on the scientific and aesthetic aspects of resonance, time, sound and hearing. His installations, compositions and performances deal with acoustic spaces and phenomena that usually remain imperceptible. Using unorthodox recording tools, including accelerometers, hydrophones and home-built electromagnetic receivers, Kirkegaard captures and contextualizes hitherto unheard sounds from within a variety of environments: a geyser, a sand dune, a nuclear power plant, an empty room, a TV tower, and even sounds from the human inner ear itself. Based in Berlin, Kirkegaard is a graduate of the Academy for Media Arts in Cologne, Germany. Since 1995, Kirkegaard has presented his works at exhibitions and at festivals and conferences throughout the world. He has released five albums (mostly on the British label Touch) and is a member of the sound art collective freq_out.

Biblo aka Pinar Üzeltüzenci is a young musician from the growing experimental, hypnagogic and lo-fi music scene in Istanbul. In her music you feel the intensity again and again in an almost painful way when it peeps through the curtain of drones and noise. She is a sister in mind for acts like Inca Ore, Pocahaunted and Kuupuu, who amalgamate folk traditions, vanguard experiments, improvisation and outsider art. Her record “On Ugliness” was released in a limited edition of 200 pieces as the first ever record on Quetzi Records in may 2010.

Be My Delay and Rella the Woodcutter live in Berlin! by DuChamp

La gioiosa macchina da guerra, Occultofest, Occulto magazine and Boring Machine are very proud to present:

RELLA THE WOODCUTTER

BE MY DELAY

two amazing, dreamy psychedelic live act from Italy, both issued on Boring Machine…live this week end in Berlin!

Rella The Woodcutter, is an Italian musician and songwriter. He has been associated with the underground ensemble The Rotten Wine Company for many years and released many albums and EPs on a variety of labels exploring different styles, some focused on traditional songcraft, others more experimental, based on a variety of subgenera as drone, free-rock and folk music, as the CD trilogy “Desire, Death and Rebirth/Ode to Makarashyiu/Excerpt from the Blue Bible”.  He is also part of Eternal Zio, psych-drone project with Roberto Maggioni, Valla and Maurizio Abate, the latest known for his collaborations with Jooklo Duo and releases from Troglosound Records.
A fully devotion and understanding of the song dynamics makes Rella one of the most interesting musicians to continue the tradition that goes from psychedelic folk to blues to more experimental territories.  Rella’s singing is rich, intense and perfumed, sometimes plunged into deep trance. Instruments and voice which rise together in a psichedelic unison building from country-like openings or dissolving from a noisy cluster into a static chord strumming.

http://www.rethwo.tk/

BeMyDelay is the solo project of Marcella Riccardi (Blake/e/e/e, Franklin Delano, Massimo Volume), singer and guitarist. Her interest in archaic blues and adventurous music is the ground for building a song collection which tastes of experimental blues, vocali drones, acoustic pareidolia.
BeMyDelay takes the listener to a soft voyage, letting the mind flow gently, a cosmic singalong where melodies come and go circularly, immersed in a muffled and ethereal atmosphere. Voice is used as an instrument, following the guitar loops and delays. The new album, entitled “ToTheOtherSideΔ” is based around manipulation of two loop stations, a couple of old wha-wha tibetan bells and some percussions, which togheter with the voice create circular vortex where the mind can loose herself into thousand echoes floating inside the songs. Marcella Riccardi aka BeMyDelay has played and sung with: Blake/e/e/e, Franklin Delano and Massimo Volume. With Franklin Delano she recorded three albums, of which “Like a smoking gun in front of me” (2004, mixed in Chicago by Brian Deck) and “Come Home” (2006, mixed at John McEntire’s Soma Studios and produced by Brian Deck) with the partecipation of musicians like Jim Becker, Ben Massarella, Tim Rutili from Califone, Fred Lomberg-Holm, Nick Broste, Josh Berman and Brian Deck himself. In 2008, with her new band, Blake/e/e/e, she started her collaboration with Vacuum Studio’s Bruno Germano, fine soundmaker and great musician (played with Settlefish among others). Blake/e/e record, “Border Radio”, has been released in US by Freefolk Records and in Europe by Unhip Records. In 2011 she worked again with Bruno Germano to record and mix her new album as BeMyDelay “ToTheOtherSideΔ” which has been mastered by Carl Saff in Chicago. Marcella/BeMyDelay loves to play live and from 2004 until now she played three coast-to-coast tour in US, two european tours and more than one hundred gigs in Italy with her bands or alone.

Upcoming concert, in the land of milk and honey, part two, a sudden crush for the New World. by DuChamp

[#] A sudden crush for the New World

Sun Oct 16th @ HAU 2 ( Hallesches Ufer 32 Kreuzberg)

LUCKY DRAGONS + SKELETONS

The duo LUCKY DRAGONS, consisting of the multi-instrumentalists Sarah Rara and Luke Fischback , has been performing for more than ten years now, and counts numerous releases. In their artistically arranged, mostly meditatively floating, and then again percussion-accentuated soundscapes they blend electronica, folk and ambient music, familiar sounds from everyday life and “exotically” coded sounds of diverse ethnic origin to become a new and highly reflected form of world music. During their concerts the LA-based group puts an end to the conventional division of stage and public, integrating the concertgoers into the plot. Likewise the trio SKELETONS conveys a similar versatility of artistic influences. It was founded ten years ago by the musician and film director Matt Mehlan. On album releases like “Money” or “Lucas” their artistic range stretches from pop in the style of Prince via free jazz and Afro-funk up to uncommon interpretations of artrock, folk and R&B. On their latest work “People” the band from New York translates their musical voyages around the world into incredibly precise, flowing and emphatic songs. Never before have the Skeletons sounded so compelling as on this album, which was co-produced by the well-known sound expert Rusty Santos.

Tue Oct 18th @ Loophole (Boddinstrasse 60, Neukölln) …main bands are from France, but from Not Not Fun !! Event organized by Noisekölln

High Wolf (FR, Not Not Fun) //

High Wolf makes music like no one else on the planet. He claims to be from the Amazon and all his activities are shrouded in mystery. Sometimes he is just one man, other times High Wolf is a duo. In either case he conjours mystic tropical clouds of repetition and build that, while complex, are never hard to listen to. The music seems to tap into a primal frequency and demands listeners to dance. A contemporary of James Ferraro (of The Skaters), Oneohtrix Point Never and Ducktails.” France’s High Wolf previous released records on Not Not Fun, Bathetic and his own Winged Sun imprint.

Blue Stork (DE) //

Droning Vocals, Distorted Preset Beats and Maracas is the dreamy stream of sounds by Blue Stork. First a straight ambient/drone solo-project called A Blue Stork Is Born By A Moonlight Tower, he decided to keep his drone aesthetics and put them together with a nostalgic tropicana feeling in which the organic Maracas played by his girlfriend and personal shaman, bring the right ethno-spiritual feeling to get high between stars and lovely creatures from the past.

Indias Indios (Chile)//

Indias indios is the name that Benjamin Altermatt gave to a collection of drawings and found images during the summer of 2006, an archive mostly related to landscapes and their people, as well as abstract forms, vertical miasma and so on. During the years the archive has expanded itself to sound collections, as well as to music collaborations with friends. Benjamin.A started to perform as indias indios in the early 2009 around europe. He is based in Berlin, and is currently working on a lo-fi movie and the soundtrack.

Nap Concert in Berlin, Wed 22-06 in Loophole by DuChamp

Nap Concert on Wed June 22 @ 21 in Loophole Berlin….

Bring your pillows! Long night of lethargic drones…(I´m serious! it will be a sleeping concert, so whatever you need to sleep!)

Fausto Maijstral (drone, saddest music in the world, IT/NZ/DE)

Fausto Maijstral is a multi-faceted band formed around the core duo of Italian scientist and musician DuChamp and sound artist Will Gresson of New Zealand. The band explores the middle ground between their mutual interest in experimental music, improvisation and the practice of field recording, performing largely improvised soundscapes with various instruments heavily processed during live performances. Individually both Rossella and Gresson have been involved in various solo and group performances, as well as contributing to several festivals in Berlin.

Olivier Newton Johnny (minimalism, NZ/FR/DE)

… sometimes you will be screaming your heart out , sometimes you are softly whispering – often you are delicately accompanied by our electric guitar / viola noise. other times your voice is actually supporting us, and quite constantly the three of us are battling each other – no one gives way and yet everyone shares a presence. We are Olivier Newton Johnny.
Olivier di Placido: electric guitar
Harmony Molina: voice
Johnny Chang: violin

Zabo Chabilant (drone, FR)

Zabo Chabiland is a French Berlin based artist working with various mediums.
She has never been trained as a musician and uses it as an advantage to create timeless soundscapes. Her favorite instrument is the
piano board she plays with electronic massagers. Zabo will perform “Piano Coude en C Majeur” a musical composition generated by the action of falling asleep on a keyboard. She is currently doing a Sleepy Tour….
