NIKA SON + BIBLO + DUCHAMP w/FILIPE DIAS DE

NIKA SON makes music with fieldrecordings, voice, analog and electronic instruments. Her music is composed of manipulated field-recordings, combined with instrumental fragments and sparse vocals. Playing live, her tracks are stretched and extended, using a groove box, varying instruments and contact-microphones. Sounds coming from somewhere deep down, circling, spinning and hovering between dark blue, red and grey. Some of her tracks have been released on compilations on m.mlabel, Alrealon Music and Wir rufen zurück (Demo-Dandies). As a DJ (Nikae) she plays records on a regular basis, mainly at the Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg, where she hosts, together with Ratkat, a monthly music and exhibition night.

BIBLO Istanbul based artist Biblo, has been creating music out of everyday noises, field recordings and lazy, confused pieces of beats for a while now. Her record “On Ugliness” was released in a limited edition of 200 pieces as the first ever record on Quetzi Records (a-musik/Cologne) in May 2010 and her latest album ’Projection’ isreleased in April 2012 through her bandcamp.

DUCHAMP  is an Italian scientist, musician and curator based in Berlin, religiously devoted to drone. She’s mainly inspired by the sound of the hairdryer, drone superheroines such as CC Hennix, Eliane Radigue, Pauline Oliveros, a long series of dronester lovers and by the lack of God. FILIPE DIAS DE  is a founding-member of Altes Finanzamt, musician and writer. After graduating in economics in Lisbon, moved to Asia (i.e. India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia) where he lived from 2006 till 2008. There he learnt sitar (Indian classical music), various Gamelan instruments (Balinese music) and Gender Wayang (Balinese xylophone used for shadow puppetry). After moving to Berlin (mid 2008), Filipe started exploring sitar in the context of experimental improvised music, developing new melodic constructions and also using objects.

Mario de Vega – born in Mexico City, 1979 his work overlaps relations between stability, failure, simulation and ambiguity with site-specific interventions, sound events, process-oriented projects, sculpture, modified electronics and sound improvisation. As an improviser, his practice explores the value of fragility & in-determination involving a wide range of customized objects, analog and modified electronics, turntables and computer based interfaces in different combinations.

Jeff Surak – operates in the netherworld between composed and improvised music, moving between musique concrete, drone, noise, & free improvisation using whatever sound implements at hand. He has collaborated with such artists as Alexei Borisov, Zan Hoffman, Rinus Van Alebeek, Frans De Waard, and Michael Gendreau.

In 2006, Programmer, writer, performer and explorer Martin Howse co-founded xxxxx, organising one large-scale conference and concert series in London (xxxxx) and publishing the acclaimed xxxxx [reader].
Heavily improvised, playing with the collapse of massed, barely functional salvaged equipment and software systems made manifest in sound/noise and image, Howse presents a complex, process-driven constructivist performance; the symphonic rise of the attempt to piece together fugal systematics is played out against the noise of collapse and machine crash at the deserted border of control.

Scott Sinclair
 – is an audiovisual artist, performer, and programmer. Largely self-taught, and with no allegiance to any single scene, he usually creates work that involves harsh and humorous collages of different media, from computer music and video art to vocal improvisation and custom-made costumes. Sinclair has a long history in improvised music, and is known for his brutal and unpredictable performances mixing more ‘serious’ and ‘difficult’ elements with ‘low brow’ trash, which has found audiences strangely entertained on many tours in Europe, Australia, Japan, Russia, and North America.

Marta Zapparoli – Sound artist, performer, musician, studied fine arts and the soproano saxophone. In Bologna/Italy being involved in a series of experimental radio shows, multmedia performances, sound installations and various dance companies and aswell experimental multimedia theater events. The last decade she creates sound art using field recordings digital and custom analog tools as well as found instruments and objects. Her sonic work investigates environmental phenomena, acoustic ecology, noise pollution, focusing on sonic narratives & human emotions through decomposition and real-time manipulation, sounds that are considered non-musical or overheard.

Musician, performer and founder of Idiosyncratics Records, Yannick Franck has developed an increasingly personal style that combines sharp acoustic research and abrasive walls of sound. Often described as trance-inducing, his music is based on the treatment of sources such as instruments and non-musical objects, voice, radio signals and field recordings. It ranges from fundamental acoustic explorations (The Staircase Continuum) to more stylistic-expressionistic searches (Memorabilia); two fields of investigation that tend to collide in his latest works. In the past, Yannick Franck has collaborated with Pietro Riparbelli / K11, Craig Hilton (Gauchiste, Loincloth), Phil Maggi, Alan Trench (World Serpent, Temple Music, Orchis) and Esther Venrooy among others and his music has been released on several labels including Silken Tofu, Young Girls Records, Sylvain Chauveau’s concept record house Onement and Italian label Silentes.

Topmodel  was Magnus Schaefer and Rinus van Alebeek on various keyboards and Mireia Guzman who made up spontaneous songs in spanish, german, english and gibberish. To some blind listeners their music reminded them of Malaria or the early Tödliche Doris. In the last years of the first decade of the new century, they were Momus’ preferred supporting act. After Magnus Schaefer`s decision to leave the group, topmodel continued, but mainly spend their time looking at a glass of milk. Now they are back. With a brand new idea. Tarot – Singing!

Mushy + Black Tar Jesus

MUSHY Italian artist directly from the underground experimental scene. Started in 2003. She’s got a double sided synth-wave slash kraut-psychedelic soul. Her sound reveals a charming world, made by the mixture of analog drum-machine loops, burgeoning cold drones, tempestuous noises and spectral chants which rise at the surface.
