Fausto Maijstral and Krapoola live eXperimontag 13.02.12 by DuChamp

Mo. 13/02/12 @ Madame Claude, Lübbener Str. XBerg eXperiMontag

FAUSTO MAIJSTRAL (Musique Concrete, Drone/NZ,IT)
Fausto Maijstral is the duo of DuChamp (IT) and Will Gresson (NZ). Together they perform dense, musique concrete/drone pieces that explore memory and lived experience through heavily processed instruments and field recordings.  They performed with Concern (US), Family Battle Snake (GR), Steindor Kristinsson (IS), Iku Sakan (JP), Bemydelay (IT) and Rella the Woodcutter (IT), and opened the 2011 edition of Occultofest in Ausland, Berlin.

KRAPOOLA (Impro, Sound Exploration/ES)
Krapoola is a tamer who explores the ways that materials interact when the entropicio happens. Noise is a part of this, not a reality by itself. Along this learning path a memory has formed itself and oblivion has appeared. The mutation has just begun. Regression? For his performances Krapoola’s self-built devices are the usual. They mostly proceed from detritus and go towards the secret. One of his tricks is to spin three records at the same time – one at normal speed, another one twice as fast or slow and one gets played backwards.

Be My Delay and Rella the Woodcutter live in Berlin! by DuChamp

La gioiosa macchina da guerra, Occultofest, Occulto magazine and Boring Machine are very proud to present:

RELLA THE WOODCUTTER

BE MY DELAY

two amazing, dreamy psychedelic live act from Italy, both issued on Boring Machine…live this week end in Berlin!

Rella The Woodcutter, is an Italian musician and songwriter. He has been associated with the underground ensemble The Rotten Wine Company for many years and released many albums and EPs on a variety of labels exploring different styles, some focused on traditional songcraft, others more experimental, based on a variety of subgenera as drone, free-rock and folk music, as the CD trilogy “Desire, Death and Rebirth/Ode to Makarashyiu/Excerpt from the Blue Bible”.  He is also part of Eternal Zio, psych-drone project with Roberto Maggioni, Valla and Maurizio Abate, the latest known for his collaborations with Jooklo Duo and releases from Troglosound Records.
A fully devotion and understanding of the song dynamics makes Rella one of the most interesting musicians to continue the tradition that goes from psychedelic folk to blues to more experimental territories.  Rella’s singing is rich, intense and perfumed, sometimes plunged into deep trance. Instruments and voice which rise together in a psichedelic unison building from country-like openings or dissolving from a noisy cluster into a static chord strumming.

BeMyDelay is the solo project of Marcella Riccardi (Blake/e/e/e, Franklin Delano, Massimo Volume), singer and guitarist. Her interest in archaic blues and adventurous music is the ground for building a song collection which tastes of experimental blues, vocali drones, acoustic pareidolia.
BeMyDelay takes the listener to a soft voyage, letting the mind flow gently, a cosmic singalong where melodies come and go circularly, immersed in a muffled and ethereal atmosphere. Voice is used as an instrument, following the guitar loops and delays. The new album, entitled “ToTheOtherSideΔ” is based around manipulation of two loop stations, a couple of old wha-wha tibetan bells and some percussions, which togheter with the voice create circular vortex where the mind can loose herself into thousand echoes floating inside the songs. Marcella Riccardi aka BeMyDelay has played and sung with: Blake/e/e/e, Franklin Delano and Massimo Volume. With Franklin Delano she recorded three albums, of which “Like a smoking gun in front of me” (2004, mixed in Chicago by Brian Deck) and “Come Home” (2006, mixed at John McEntire’s Soma Studios and produced by Brian Deck) with the partecipation of musicians like Jim Becker, Ben Massarella, Tim Rutili from Califone, Fred Lomberg-Holm, Nick Broste, Josh Berman and Brian Deck himself. In 2008, with her new band, Blake/e/e/e, she started her collaboration with Vacuum Studio’s Bruno Germano, fine soundmaker and great musician (played with Settlefish among others). Blake/e/e record, “Border Radio”, has been released in US by Freefolk Records and in Europe by Unhip Records. In 2011 she worked again with Bruno Germano to record and mix her new album as BeMyDelay “ToTheOtherSideΔ” which has been mastered by Carl Saff in Chicago. Marcella/BeMyDelay loves to play live and from 2004 until now she played three coast-to-coast tour in US, two european tours and more than one hundred gigs in Italy with her bands or alone.

Fausto Maijstral (drone, saddest music in the world, IT/NZ/DE)

Fausto Maijstral is a multi-faceted band formed around the core duo of Italian scientist and musician DuChamp and sound artist Will Gresson of New Zealand. Individually both Rossella and Gresson have been involved in various solo and group performances, as well as contributing to several festivals in Berlin.

Olivier Newton Johnny (minimalism, NZ/FR/DE)

… sometimes you will be screaming your heart out , sometimes you are softly whispering – often you are delicately accompanied by our electric guitar / viola noise. other times your voice is actually supporting us, and quite constantly the three of us are battling each other – no one gives way and yet everyone shares a presence. We are Olivier Newton Johnny.
Olivier di Placido: electric guitar
Harmony Molina: voice
Johnny Chang: violin

Zabo Chabilant (drone, FR)

Zabo Chabiland is a French Berlin based artist working with various mediums.

Lecture/presentation/discussion by C-drík Fermont @ NK, Elsenstrasse 52

Halim El-Dabh composed his first experimental piece in Cairo in 1944, his  work can be related to other pioneers such as Luigi Russolo, John Cage, Walter Ruttmann, and Pierre Schaeffer. The official history of experimental and electronic music is mostly centered around three starting poles : Paris, Cologne, New York and then everything seems to have spread all over the Western civilization. This is what I learned when I studied electro-acoustic music at the conservatory. Most contemporary media introduces us to Western electronic music as if nothing else existed, the West is self-centered and consciously or not often denies the others the right to express themselves. Have you ever heard about the pioneers who composed electro-acoustic music in Israel, Japan, Iran, Turkey or Indonesia in the 1950′s and 1960′s ? The Filipino experimental scene ? The Chinese sound art scene ? The Tunisian electronica ? The South African shangaan electro ? The Lebanese dubstep and breakcore parties? This lecture will be an introduction to C-Drik research on electronic and experimental music in Africa and Asia, from 1944 until today.

Wet Cartoon – concert + exhibition @ Staalplaat Sat 21 May by DuChamp

Wet Cartoons is a retrospective show celebrating 5 years of Drippy Bone Books zine and comics publishing. Started in 2007 by artists Kristy Foom and Mario Zoots as a way to catalog the underground art scene happening in Denver, Colorado and other cities in the US, over the years it’s become a strong platform for collaborating with artists involved in underground comics, illustration, video, music, and design. Keenan Marshall Keller, a comic artist based in Los Angeles, joined Foom and Zoots in 2008. Each artist prints and pays for the publications they release under the hood name Drippy Bone Books. All editions are small run varying from 10 – 100 copies. Living in different cities, publications are now released from Los Angeles, Denver and Amsterdam. The name Drippy Bone Books was inspired by the comic Oops Goops (2006) drawn by David Magdelano and Brian Bamps of Los Angeles. Wet Cartoons refers to the looseness of the Drippy Bone Books publishing project, and how it’s a liquid mirror on some contemporary underground communities. The show will feature books from the Drippy Bone Books archive and video art and prints from Kristy Foom, Mario Zoots and Keenan Marshall Keller.

Wildsmile studios is a Dresden-based network project, which operates a fine manual screenprint and promotes a variety of projects such as the International Sticker Awards or the art space C. Rockefeller Center for the Contemporary Arts.
In the last 5 years the posters and propaganda for the events of the in-house sound system R.I.Z.L.A and other diverse and manifold artistic on-and-off productions are designed screen-printed there. Because the archive is currently being renovated, it was decided to outsource the posters and prints, without further ado, to the rooms of Berlins Le Petit Mignon (Staalpaat store). The move of the collection is accompanied by caribbean folklore music.

Preslav Literary School new album to download by DuChamp

New Preslav Literary School tape-stry is out now!  The album is available as a free download from Interdisco, esteemed Zurich purveyors of sonic materials, and was described as “dense, stunning and ritualistic live cassette collage and found sound conjuring” by Lend Me Your Ears.

Download your copy for free here.

This is what Interdisco kindly wrote by way of liner notes:

We’re very excited to introduce you to the Preslav Literary School. Preslav’s ambient drones are an offer of peace and tranquility. Veer is disarmingly heartfelt and has an emotional intensity which leaves you with goose bumps and a deep feeling of sobriety. While doing that, it’s not esoteric or New Age-y in any way. So we’re not talking about waves breaking on the shore, whales mating in the deep ocean, or the like. No, droning out of the tape archive are lost & found violins, ghostly voices, stretched out guitar riffs and industrial soundscapes.

Veer uses live recordings of a Preslav Literary School concert at Open Broadcast’s Radio Village, Basel, Switzerland on Friday June 18th 2010. It was mixed and named in Berlin in March 2011. Artwork is by Benjamin Laurent Aman.

# Our Occultofest´s main act Preslav Literary School Adam Thomas will perform live in Berlin
